Beaconsfield Heights Knot Challenge
Knot Night where we will learn several knots and their applications. However, to really know your knots, you need practice, not just one night. Knots are very important in Cubs and Scouts and something that should be fun to learn. So, our goal is to, over the course of a year, have the Cubs work on and master 7 knots.
In order to accomplish this goal, any cub that arrives at a weekly meeting early, can come and see “Mang” to learn a new knot, or demonstrate it. The more practice, the more mastery, the better. Please don’t forget to bring your rope!
We will have a knot tracker board set-up starting Knot Night. The purpose of the knot tracker board is to track a cub’s progress with their knots. Once the knot is tied unassisted and verified, and the cub has an understanding of what the knot is used for, the Cub is to sign their name beside the knot on the board.
Once 7 knots are known and tied, the “Knot Challenge” is for a Cub to demonstrate the tying of all 7 knots successfully at one time (unassisted). The Cub needs to know the names of the knots and what they can be used for. Once they accomplish this, they pass the knot challenge and receive the Beaconsfield Heights Knot Challenge Patch, are deemed to be a Knot Nut and sign their name under “Knot Nut” on the knot tracker board.
The knots can be found in your cub book on page 100.
